Tonight, I’m riled up.
I just finished reading the reviews of several new books and albums on Amazon, and I am finally and absolutely baffled by something I’ve been noticing for a while now:
The absolute vitriol contained in some 1-star reviews.
What’s up with that?
Let me say that I have no beef with 1-star reviews—of my books, or anyone else’s. I am a believer in honesty, personal opinion, and that variance gives credibility to any rating system overall. No one can please everyone—nor should everyone be pleased.
But what I am not a believer in is negativity, ridicule, and needless grief in general—by people who have never quaked through the process of laying their own artistic babies before the masses. [...]
